Sweet Bird of Youth (Study) by Jack Vettriano

This very simple and delicate study was first shown in 1995 in the A Date with Fate exhibition. The title is taken from a song by Leonard Cohen, who is one of Vettriano’s favourite singers.

This is one of Jack Vettriano’s best-selling images and was first shown in 1994 at the Chimes at Midnight exhibition. This is one of a series of paintings from that period that Vettriano has set on beaches and which are inspired by the coastal views local to him when he was growing up on the East coast of Scotland.

This still and pensive painting was first shown in 1997 in the Small Paintings and Studies exhibition. The room depicted in the painting is Vettriano’s studio in the Georgian Townhouse in Edinburgh in which he lived and worked in the 1990’s

Bluebird at Bonneville by Jack Vettriano

This image is one of seven inspired by Malcolm Campbell’s life and the Bluebird cars with which he broke successive land-speed records in the 1930s. Vettriano was commissioned to produce this series of paintings in 1996 and they now hang in The Bluebird Club in London.

This painting which was inspired by the Noel Coward poem Mad Dogs and Englishmen, was first shown in 1992 in the God’s Children exhibition at The Edinburgh Gallery. The Billy Boys by Jack Vettriano

This image is reminiscent of a still from a film and invites the viewer to invent their own narrative around the subject. It first appeared in the Chimes at Midnight exhibition in 1994. The title comes from a Glaswegian song that became popular in the 1920s.
