The Guild of British Travel Agents (GBTA)

 

 

Founded in 1967 the GBTA is a membership organisation, by invitation only. It comprises 37 of the UK’s leading business travel agents including Portman Travel Group, P and O Travel Ltd, Going places, Carlson Wagonlit Travel and Ian Allen Travel. It is the broad sphere of agency membership that enables the GBTA collectively to dominate the Business Travel Market with some 80% share of UK agents air travel bookings.

 

The combined turnover of guild members has risen throughout the 1990’s, from 3.5 billion in 1992, 4.34 billion in 1995 to 7.64 billion in 1998. Member agencies employ around 15,000 staff in their businesses.

 

The Guild of European Business travel agents (GEBTA) was formed in January 1990 at the instigation of the GBTA in Britain. There are now 11 national guild with over 300 members in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and The United Kingdom.
